Niles, Barton & Wilmer, LLP Summer Associate Spotlight: Nial Vender
Nial Vender is a J.D. Candidate at University of Baltimore School of Law where he volunteers at the Low Income Tax Clinic.
Nial attended Franklin and Marshall College where he received a B.S. in Public Health and Government. His thesis was on the "Effects of Occupational Inequality: Economic Disparities Driving Health Disparities" and activities included: Problem Solving Drug Courts, F&M ACLU, Grand Master of Ceremonies - Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was also a Student Employment Office Manager in the Office of Student & Post-Graduate Development.
Previously, Nial was a Judicial Intern and Courtroom Assistant for the Honorable Richard M. Hughes, Ill in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In this role, he organized files requested by Judge & clerks, ensuring accessibility of legal documents, participated in courtroom proceedings,
offering assistance and gaining an understanding of the legal process. He also proofread orders and motions and engaged in discussions with Judge and his staff, contributing perspectives and supporting the team in legal analysis and decision-making.
Nial was also a Volunteer Data Management Intern with Wilkes-Barre Municipal Fire Department. As an intern, he managed the creation of a digital infrastructure, enhancing organization & management capabilities of the department, converted paper documents into digital files, ensuring accessibility for department's personnel, and executed tasks at request of Chief and Assistant Chief, showing proactive approach to supporting the department's needs and priorities.
He was also a Legal Intern and Administrative Clerk for Marshall Dennehey Insurance Defense Firm, where he managed comprehensive filing and case management systems, conducted in-depth legal research analyzing incoming cases and prepared concise summaries for attorney review, observed & documented client meetings, settlement conferences, mediation agreements, & depositions, ensuring accurate records for reference, and assisted litigation preparation by organizing trial materials, compiling necessary documents to facilitate smooth courtroom proceedings.
