November 29, 2019
Brett A. Buckwalter has re-joined the firm as a member of its Litigation and Employment Law practice groups. Brett returns to Niles, Barton & Wilmer, LLP, after spending three years as an in-house litigation attorney at a leading national personal installment lender, where he represented the company against all types of consumer claims, and gained extensive experience defending claims arising under state consumer protection, fair lending, and debt collection laws, as well as federal laws such as the FCRA, TCPA, TILA, FDCPA, and bankruptcy laws. During this time, he also regularly worked on litigation and compliance matters with outside counsel, gaining an invaluable perspective from the “client’s view” relating to the importance of effective communication and collaboration between businesses and their counsel throughout the litigation process.
Managing Partner Craig Roswell commented that “we are delighted to welcome Brett back to Niles Barton. Brett is a seasoned litigator and business counselor, and the experience he brings as in-house counsel at a major corporation will enhance our ability to serve our clients.”
In addition to bringing his consumer financial services experience to Niles Barton, Mr. Buckwalter's has extensive experience in employment law and employment litigation, regularly counseling businesses on employment and personnel issues, drafting effective workplace policies and manuals, and complying with federal, state, and local employment laws, thus deepening the firm's employment practice. Brett represents businesses in various commercial and employment litigation matters, including employment discrimination claims, professional liability claims, non-competition and trade secret disputes, and commercial contract disputes.
